Advantage+ creative enhancements are automatic edits Meta can make to your ads at delivery: cropping and expanding media for each placement, adding music or animation, rewriting text, generating backgrounds and showing comments. Turn on the low-risk format fixes, test the AI text and visual changes against your original, and switch off anything that could misstate your offer.
- Meta’s Help Center listed 31 creative enhancements in September 2026, 17 of them labeled as AI.
- Format fixes like visual and video touch-ups are low risk and usually worth keeping on.
- AI text, CTA and overlay changes can misstate prices, offers or compliance claims. Test them first.
- Enhancements are now set one by one. Check them on every new ad, because defaults change.
What are Advantage+ creative enhancements?
Advantage+ creative is Meta’s set of automatic edits to your ads. You upload an image, a video or a carousel. Meta can then adjust it for each placement and each viewer: crop it to fit Reels, add music, animate a still image, rewrite your headline or show a positive comment under the ad.
The pitch is simple. Meta has more placements and more viewers than you can design for by hand. Let it adapt the creative and it will find more conversions. Sometimes that is true. Sometimes it puts words in your ad you never wrote.
What happened to “standard enhancements”?
Meta used to bundle the basic edits into one switch called standard enhancements. That bundle covered image templates, touch-ups, text optimizations, relevant comments and video auto-cropping.
Meta’s developer documentation says that starting with Marketing API v22.0 you can no longer opt in or out of the bundle as a whole. Each feature is now its own toggle. In practice, that means you need to look at every enhancement on every new ad, because the defaults are not the same across formats and objectives.
Every Advantage+ creative enhancement, grouped by what it does
The names change often and not every option shows for every format or objective. It is easier to think in groups.
Format and placement fixes
- Visual touch-ups: crops images and uses AI to expand them so they fit more placements.
- Video touch-ups: crops or expands video to 9:16 or 4:5.
- Adjust brightness and contrast: small automatic image corrections.
- Flex media: lets media you made for one placement show in others.
- Image touch-ups for catalog: fits product images to vertical formats.
Motion and sound
- Add animation: turns a still image into a short animated clip.
- Add music: adds a track from Meta’s library to images and carousels.
- Add video effects: boosts contrast and color in video.
Text changes
- Text improvements: moves phrases from your copy into other spots, like the headline or an overlay.
- Text generation: writes extra primary text and headline options based on your ad.
- Enhance CTA: swaps in pre-written calls to action and can add promo phrases.
- Add overlays and enhance media text: places or rewrites text on top of your image.
- Translations and video subtitles: translates text and voiceover, or captions your video.
Generated media
- Image generation: creates new image variations from your ad.
- Background generation: creates new backgrounds behind catalog product images.
Extra information around the ad
- Relevant comments: shows a real comment from your post below the ad.
- Add details, spotlights and summaries: pulls ratings, website text or an AI summary of your selling points into the ad.
- Store locations: highlights nearby locations for businesses with physical stores.
- Product tags, dynamic overlays and labels: show catalog products, prices or “on sale” labels.
Do Advantage+ creative enhancements actually work?
Meta publishes some averages on its Advantage+ creative page.
These are Meta’s own figures, not independent tests, and Meta does not publish the details behind them on that page. They also mostly come from e-commerce. A lead generation ad for a dental office or a roofing company is a different situation. The honest answer is: some enhancements help, some do not, and you only know for your account by testing.
Which Advantage+ creative enhancements should you turn on?
Our rule of thumb is based on one question: can this change make the ad say something untrue or off-brand?
| Enhancement | Risk | Our default |
|---|---|---|
| Visual and video touch-ups | Low | On. Check the crop on your key placements. |
| Brightness and contrast | Low | On |
| Relevant comments | Low if your comments are clean | On, and moderate your comments |
| Video subtitles | Low | On for talking-head video. Proofread names and prices. |
| Add music | Medium | Test. Off for serious topics like legal, health or finance. |
| Add animation, video effects | Medium | Test against the static version |
| Text improvements, text generation | Medium | Test. Review every variation Meta shows you. |
| Enhance CTA, overlays, media text | High for offers | Off when your ad has a price, a promo or legal wording |
| Image and background generation | High for services | Off when the image must show your real work, team or location |
| Translations | Depends | Only if you can serve customers in that language |
Are enhancements different for lead ads and e-commerce?
Yes, and this is where most small businesses get burned. An online store sells products that look the same in every crop. More placements and more variations usually just mean more reach. A local service business sells trust. The photo of your real crew, your real truck and your real price is the point of the ad.
For lead generation, the risk is not that enhancements fail. It is that they work on the wrong metric. A punchier AI headline can raise click-through rate and form fills while lowering the share of leads who answer the phone. Ads Manager will report a cheaper cost per lead. Your sales team will report worse leads.
- E-commerce: be more open to catalog features, background generation and product tags. Judge on purchase value.
- Lead generation: keep format fixes on, test text changes carefully and judge on qualified leads and booked jobs.
- Local businesses: store locations can help, but generated imagery rarely does. People want to see the real place.
Whatever you sell, connect your CRM results back to Meta with the Conversions API, so the system learns from real customers and not just from form submissions.
How to test enhancements without guessing
Turning everything on and watching the cost per result is not a test. Results in Ads Manager blend all variations together, so you cannot tell which change helped.
- 1Pick one enhancement group to test, for example text changes.
- 2Duplicate the ad set. Keep the same audience, budget and creative.
- 3Turn the group on in one version and off in the other. Leave everything else identical.
- 4Use Meta’s A/B test tool if you can, so audiences do not overlap.
- 5Run until each version has a meaningful number of conversions, not just a few days of clicks.
- 6Judge on cost per qualified lead or per sale from your CRM, not on click-through rate.
- 7Keep the winner and move on to the next group.
How to check what Meta is actually showing
- Open the ad preview in Ads Manager and click through the variations for each placement.
- Look for any price, discount or claim you did not write.
- Check that cropped media still shows your logo, product and key text.
- Watch the comments on the post, since relevant comments can surface them under the ad.
- Recheck new and duplicated ads. They may come with different defaults than the original.
What this means for small business advertisers
Enhancements are not a replacement for good creative. They adapt an ad to more places. If the core message is weak, Meta will show a weak message in more formats.
Spend your effort on the offer, the hook in the first second and a landing page that converts. Then let the safe enhancements handle cropping and placement. Test the AI features one group at a time, and keep a human eye on every ad that carries a price, a promise or your reputation.

They can. AI text and CTA changes may bring more clicks from less qualified people. Measure cost per qualified lead from your CRM, not just cost per lead in Ads Manager.
At the ad level in Ads Manager, in the creative section of each ad. Available enhancements vary by format and objective.
No. Advantage+ campaigns automate targeting, budget and placements. Advantage+ creative enhancements automate edits to the ad itself. You can use one without the other.
